Asobi is an evolution of the previous Sony Computer Entertainment title EyePet. Thanks to analytics company Newzoo, we learned what kind of next-gen games Americans played in the first days after the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PS5 is hard to come by, and it’s hard to get new games that make the most of its power.
Ico, The Last Guardian, Demon’s Souls, Patapon are all things of the past. In Sony’s new reality, there’s seemingly no more room for funding titles that resist Western trends and set their own. The PS5 has been an unmitigated success, but the high prices of next-generation games are prompting gamers to look toward “freebies.” Here are the games you can already play for free on PlayStation 5. With non-stop magic, endearing characters and plenty of humour, this is the perfect game for families to enjoy.
The main character Ash uses a paint brush that can bring his creations to life. Astro’s Playroom is also, surprisingly, a true love letter to PlayStation history. Each of the game’s four main levels is littered with tiny nods to various PlayStation games, reenacted by adorable robots. mb66 are more obvious — like a robot with a bandana that pops out of a cardboard box — while others are more subtle deep cuts to the retro library (like 1995’s Jumping Flash!). It doesn’t stop at the collectibles; some bots pay tribute to past icons.
Upon touching the fourth starfish, you’ll come across the special bot, and the clue for the riddle — an arrow following a specific route. From the start, climb the first ledge, and instead of progressing on the critical path to the wall ahead, go through the grass on the left, and you’ll find a Bloodborne bot. Astro’s Playroom is a 2020 platform game developed by Japan Studio’s Team Asobi division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5.
When you get to the section where you have to hop along a rolling hexagon, at the start will be a Bot using a pair of golden scissors inside a frame. This references Puppeteer, a 2013 PS3 game developed by SIE Japan Studio. The game takes place entirely within a stage, with main character Kutaro who uses Calibrus, a magic pair of scissors. Once you encounter the first Shock Walls, make your way South-East into a pink area filled with spider webs you can thrust through. At the end you’ll find an Artefact, as well as a Bot hanging upside-down from the ceiling by a web.

Simply interact with each one, help the bots lift up the rock, and they will be added to your collection. If you get it wrong, then you’ll need to scale the hill again, grab another bunch of bananas, and retry the dance minigame. If you’re successful, you’ll unlock the bot and get the “No Escape! The gameplay features minimal cartoonish violence across each stage.
Ease Of Play
The speed of the SSD as levels instantly load is impressive, as nothing was this fast with the PlayStation 4. Astro’s Playroom makes the case that the DualSense Controller is the best in all gaming. It perfectly showcases the capabilities of the device in fun and engaging ways.

It is worth noting that the game has been designed to use the advanced vibration capabilities of the DualSense pad to highlight the various things we see on screen (e.g. rain). A ton of touches like this show the love for the PlayStation. That’s a level of meta that could amaze any PlayStation fanboy. As the PlayStation pack-in title for the PlayStation 5, Astro’s Playroom is a short and masterful experience. While it was originally just a tech demo for the DualSense, it offers a colorful and expertly crafted platforming game to tie in all of that controller’s features. There are a few things that elevate Astro from being just another fun-but-forgettable platformer.
The two characters are Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, while the lab coat Bot is series villain Albert Wesker. The door is a reference to show the game hid loading times, by showing a shot of a door opening to disguise the load between rooms. When entering the first wide open area, jump to the island on the left with a circle of Bots on it, one of which is wearing a purple beanie.
