The best that could be said about these collectibles is they never feel like a chore to track down and get. Finding everything and everyone that the game hid across its levels has its rewards. Such rewards inlcude leading players to even more great Easter Eggs, and unlocking bonus features like the Photo Mode. 3D action platformers have many ways to keep their players engaged long after defeating the final boss.
But what’s really interesting is that roughly 160 of the game’s 300 bots are themed on past PlayStation games, wearing adorable little costumes. At your base, you can also use coins in a vending machine to unlock items for these themed bots, giving them little motifs that you can interact with. To get help on his mission, Astro can use over 15 new abilities offering unique play styles.

That controller is still not available for preorder, though Sony said it will launch later this year and that it would have more information to share soon. So thoughtful and it pays such an awesome homage to PlayStation consoles and games over the years. It truly takes advantage of all the different features the PS5 remote offers and is just pure awesome joy.
Whatever you call them, they’re made much more reachable thanks to our Astro Bot collectibles guide, which reveals an in-game mechanic that allows you to track down hidden cameo bots with ease. It’s not the only hidden in-game mechanic either, as you can unlock a secret photo mode in Astro Bot, too. I won’t talk about the other buildings players can build in Astro Bot’s hub world, but rest assured they are great as well, giving players extra incentive to hunt down every single collectible.
What fans do know is that Sony has been thrilled with Astro Bot’s reception and performance. In fact, Sony announced more games like Astro Bot are being planned, expanding its family-friendly offerings. Most of the Astro Bot cameo characters are pretty easy to identify, but there are a few VIP Bots who are obscure and thus can be difficult to place. The fact that Team Asobi’s games have the potential to become someone’s first game is something that Doucet takes seriously.
Could it just be that all the critics are right and this is a good game? Not overhyped, AF88 exaggerated, just a bug free, well made bit of fun. I am playing now with my daughter and I find something that team Asobi are geniuses. Then hopefully Sony realise that fun, original, innovative single player experiences have a place in today’s world. Insomniac just pissing on the floor with Rift Apart over Crack in Time’s built up dramatic change of the formula & pathetic rift feature that Crack built up as a start on an HDD.

Now it’s up to Astro Bot to literally put the pieces together. Astro Bot’s various worlds have a lot of colorful characters you’ll meet along the way. To challenge Bully Space Nebulax, the final boss of the game, you must first complete every main planet across all galaxies. Last year saw the release of Astro Bot, our biggest game to date.
A collection of endlessly inventive levels and fantastically fun abilities, it delivers joy in spades, never once becoming even remotely dull or repetitive. And while you don’t need a long history with Sony systems to enjoy it, it is especially a delight for those with a piece of PlayStation in their heart as a treasure trove full of playable nostalgia awaits. I arrived at the end credits after nine hours but had only collected 206 out of a possible 301 bots on my journey. There’s plenty to do after the main levels are done, including finding the remainder of the crew, building out the rest of the hub base, and unearthing new secrets among the stars. There’s so much, in fact, that it took me another nine hours (so, 18 in total) to 100% Astro Bot and acquire the platinum trophy that comes with it. While I’d never say any of its main worlds ever approach being truly “difficult” in the pursuit of that 100% completion goal, some enemies or obstacles did take a few tries.
@nicc83 I would say around the hour mark if you just do the main levels and that’s it, but if you want to see and do everything, likely 20 hours or more. Obviously it depends on how much exploring you do and how much you’re bothered about collecting everything — it’s a very meaty 3D platformer in my opinion and a really nice length. Astro Bot is a showcase of a developer working at the top of its game, but most importantly a developer that keeps fun and playfulness at the forefront of everything it does. Finally though I want to highlight the fantastic score, because like its levels, it bounces around genres, delivering consistently catchy head bobbers, on top of slightly remixed versions of iconic Sony soundtracks. I know this OST is going to be in my regular rotation once it finally drops on Spotify, because it’s simply too good to leave locked within this game. Carefully jump onto the invisible platforms above the other sunken stones in the desert until you reach the other side (remember to use your booster dog).
I feel the crunch of the grass between my metal feet and hear the sound from my DualSense’s speakers. Then I move on to a metallic checkerboard floor, where I hear my legs lightly click-clacking on the tiles. At some point during your playthrough, I recommend muting your TV and leaving your controller audio on. You’ll immediately feel and hear just how much Team Asobi uses the controller to sell its visuals. To proceed, all I have to do is run forward and rub a magic lamp by moving left and right. When I slowed down, though, I began to appreciate just how much I could play with in the little town before moving on.
